Transforming the cocoa industry for a sustainable future
We have been developing a sustainable cacao supply chain in association with our farmer partners and customers for over 30 years. Find out how you can join us on our mission to build a prosperous future.
Our commitment to developing a sustainable supply chain has a transformative impact on cacao-producing communities, creating places to live and work that inspire the next generations to continue cultivating.
Being so close to March 8th, International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to gender equality in every way or form. In this sense, being aware of how the empowerment of women not only helps themself but also their families and communities, the Nuwa Muun project was born.
The Nuwa Muun Project
The Nuwa Muun project was born with the purpose of empowering women in cacao farming located in Pasco and Junin, regions of the Peruvian rainforest, allowing them to improve the productivity of their farms. Nuwa Muun means “great women” on awajun, an ancient indigenous language mainly spoken on the Amazon, representing perfectly what our primary goal is.
But how are we going to do it?
Peru is one of the principal producers of organic cacao in the world, and it is our responsibility to assure our farmers are growing cacao in a sustainable way. In order for them to perform better, we must empower them in every possible way.
For this project, we decided to focus on one of our most important stakeholders: working women in cocoa farming. Through education, providing them with adequate training and technical support from our specialists, we look forward to seeing an increase in the productivity of their cacao farms and, most importantly, empowering them to keep growing as farmers.
We will also give them fertilizers, fully funded by us, as well as interest-free loans for application, pruning, harvest, and post-harvest activities.
